2003/05/05 New Hardware for the Front Engine Mounting Support is Available {1154}
Wheel Loader:
994 (S/N: 9YF1-225)

The new hardware that is available for the front engine support that is on the 994 Wheel Loader will provide a stronger mounting point at the frame for the engine. The new parts are listed in Table 1.

Note: This procedure will not require the engine to be lifted. The front support is machined in order to accept a sleeve, which is much larger than the drill or the tap. Therefore, adequate working space will permit the engine to remain in place during the procedure.

Table 1
New Hardware for the Front Support
Quantity     Part Number     Description
4     3E-4888     Washer
4     6Y-9980     Mount (1)

4     9X-6618     Bolt
4     9X-8399     Washer
( 1 ) Original existing mounts will be reused with the new hardware.

Table 2
Tools that are Required
Quantity     Part Number     Description
1     4C-4969     M30 Tap
1     1U-8194     Drill Bit (1)
( 1 ) The drill bit is 27 mm (1.06 inch) in size. This is the recommended diameter in order to drill for a M30 bolt.

In order to replace the hardware for the front support, perform the procedure that follows.

Note: The hardware for each engine mount assembly must be replaced individually. Do not remove all four of the front engine mounts at the same time. Perform Steps 1 through Step 3 for each mounting hole.

  1. Remove a bolt (2) from the engine front support. Remove the washer that is on the bolt.

  1. Remove a washer (3) from the top of mounts (5) .

  1. Remove a sleeve (4) from the inside of mounts (5) .

  1. By using a 1U-8194 Drill Bit, drill out the frame at the threaded mounting holes. Ensure that you remove any metal burrs left on the frame. Ensure that the surface of the frame and the mounting holes are free of debris.

  1. By using a 4C-4969 M30 Tap, tap the mounting holes in order to accept the new 9X-6618 Bolts (2). Ensure that you completely clean out the mounting holes after the new threads are in place.

  1. Install a new 3E-4887 Sleeve (4) into the center of the 6Y-9980 Mount (5). Ensure that the sleeve contacts the frame. You may use a suitable lubricant on the inside of mount (5) in order to avoid pinching of mount (5). This will prevent the new sleeve (4) from pinching mount (5) when the sleeve is inserted into the mount.

  1. Place a new 3E-4888 Washer (3) on the top of 6Y-9980 Mount (5) .

  1. Install a new 9X-8399 Washer onto a new 9X-6618 Bolt (2) and install the assembly into mounting frame (1). Torque bolt (2) to 1600 ± 200 N·m (1200 ± 150 lb ft).

  1. Repeat Step 1 through Step 8 for the remaining three mounting points.
