2014/10/23 Improved Woodchip Screens are now used on D8T Track-Type Tractors Equipped with Quick Release Radiator Grills {7170}
Track-Type Tractor:
D8T (S/N: J8B1-UP; MLN1-UP; FCT1-UP; KPZ1-UP)

Description of Change: New perforated plate screens have replaced previous wire mesh screens on the machines listed above when they are equipped with quick release radiator grills. The new screens are more robust than the previous screens.

Adaptable To: New 437-7836 Screen, 437-7837 Screen, and 460-8719 Screen replaces the former 274-3653 Screen As, 293-0291 Screen As and 274-3652 Screen As respectively in Radiator Grill Groups 274-3625 Radiator Grill Gp, 293-0290 Radiator Grill Gp, 363-5982 Radiator Grill Gp, 363-5984 Radiator Grill Gp, and 388-6954 Radiator Grill Gp .

New screens are adaptable to machines and effective in production with machines that are listed in the Table 1.

Use the following rework procedure to update the adaptable machine with the new 437-7836 Screen, 437-7837 Screen, and 460-8719 Screen .

Rework Procedure

Note: If the machine is equipped with 274-3626 Grill As and 274-3627 Grill As with the wire mesh screen welded to the grill assembly, replace these grill assemblies with grill assemblies that accept bolt on screen assemblies. Refer to 274-3625 Radiator Grill Gp in parts book, SEBP4195, D8T (J8B) Track-Type Tractor in order to identify parts required to convert from type one Grill Gp - Radiator with weld on screens to type two Grill Gp - Radiator with bolt on screens.

( 1 ) Only one screen (LH) is required. Select the correct screen depending on the grill door to which it mounts. If the tractor is equipped with grill door 274-3650 Grill As and former screen 274-3652 Screen As, then use Screen (LH) 460-8719 Screen. If the tractor is equipped with grill door 293-0292 Grill As and former screen 293-0291 Screen As, then use Screen (LH) 437-7837 Screen .

  1. Remove RH screen assembly (A) and LH screen assembly (B). Retain the existing hardware and baffles. Discard both screens.

  1. Install new screen RH (1) using two Clip As (3), two Washer (4), two Bolt (5) and existing hardware saved in Step 1. Refer to Illustration 2 and Illustration 3.

  1. Install new screen LH, either (2) or (6), using Clip As (3), Washer (4), Bolt (5) and existing hardware saved in Step 1. Refer to Illustration 3 and Illustration 4.

  1. Install existing baffles (C) and (D). Install baffles (E) if present. Use existing baffles and hardware saved in Step 1. Refer to Illustration 2 and Illustration 4.
