2014/09/12 The Fender Support Mount Has Been Improved on Certain Wheel Tractor-Scrapers {7050} Caterpillar

Description of Change: The fender support mount has been improved on the machines listed above. The fender support mount is now welded all around the block with correct blending and tig toe dressing. The improved weld will better withstand stress and provide more robustness.

Adaptable To: The improve fender support mount is adaptable to machines and effective in production with machines that are listed in Table 1.

Use the following rework procedure in order to update the fender support mount on the adaptable machines that are listed in Table 1.

1. Remove paint from the areas below at the outer lower portion of both 6E-3764 Blocks (A). Refer to Illustration 2 for proper location.

2. Inspect for any cracks of the welds that retains 6E-3764 Block (A) to rail assembly (B) .

3. If cracking is present on the welds, gouge out the crack to the full extent and re-weld completely before performing the final welding.

(W1) 8 mm (0.3 inch) fillet weld

4. Weld the underside of the outer end of 6E-3764 Block (A) to rail assembly (B). Create a smooth transition between the vertical plane of the rail assembly (B) and the outer end of 6E-3764 Block (A) as shown in Illustration 4.

5. Perform tig toe dress procedure to the weld toe transition onto the vertical plane of the rail assembly (B) in the area as shown in Illustration 1. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures".

6. Paint all welded surface as shown in Illustration 6.
