Description of Change: The new procedure will improve the reliability of the lock assembly on the rear guard.

Adaptable To: The machines that are listed in Table 1 may need the updated lock assembly.

Perform the procedure below in order to update the lock assembly on the rear guard. Use the parts that are listed in Table 3.

  1. Remove the current latch assembly and the current pawl.

    (D) 18 mm (0.709 inch)

  1. The plate that is shown in Illustration 1 should be fabricated out of a plate that is 3 mm (0.118 inch) thick.

    Note: The plate that is shown in Illustration 1 is required for machines that are heavy-duty and for machines that are light-duty.

  1. Fabricate the plate that is shown in Illustration 2. Fabricate the plate out of a plate that is 3 mm (0.118 inch) thick for heavy-duty applications. Fabricate the plate out of a plate that is 13 mm (0.512 inch) thick for light-duty applications.

  1. Weld plate (3) to door (1) with a 3 mm (0.118 inch) fillet weld on two sides and the top. Use 260-3568 Latch As (2) in order to position the plate correctly.

  1. Check inside strip (4) for any existing plates or spacers. Remove any plates or spacers.

  1. Position plate (5) flat against the strip (4) so that the plate is even with the top of the strip.

  1. Secure the plate in place and apply a 3 mm (0.118 inch) fillet weld on each side of the plate.

  1. On machines that are light-duty, install 260-3568 Latch Assembly (2) onto the rear guard and install 262-4748 Pawl (6) onto latch assembly (2). On machines that are heavy-duty, install 260-1784 Spacer onto the 260-3568 Latch As (2). Install latch assembly (2) and 260-1784 Spacer onto the rear guard, and install the 262-4748 Pawl (6) onto 260-3568 Latch As (2) .

  1. Adjust 262-4748 Pawl (6) so that the door will close. Make sure that there is no gap between 262-4748 Pawl (6) and plate (5) when the door is closed.
