Removal Procedure
Required Tools     | |||
Tool     | Part Number     | Part Description     | Qty     |
A     | 1P-3527     | Valve Spring Compressor     | 1     |
B     | 1U-7262     | Telescoping Magnet     | 1     |
C     | 4C-8134     | Seal Remover     | 1     |
1U-7600 | Slide Hammer Puller Gp     | 1     | |
D     | 8S-2263     | Spring Tester     | 1     |
Start By:
- Remove the cylinder head assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Remove".
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Clean the bottom face of the cylinder head. Check the depth of the valves below the face of the cylinder head before the valve springs are removed. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Valve Depth - Inspect".
- Place an index mark on the heads of the inlet valves and the exhaust valves for installation purposes.
- Remove caps (1) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force. Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment. Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force. |
NOTICE |
---|
Ensure that the valve spring is compressed squarely or damage to the valve stem may occur. |
- Use Tooling (B) to remove retainers (3) .
- Release the pressure from Tooling (A) and remove Tooling (A) .
- Remove retainer (4) and valve spring (2). Remove valve (6). Use Tooling (C) to remove seal (5) .
- Repeat Steps 4 through 7 in order to remove the remaining inlet and exhaust valves.
- Use Tooling (D) to check the valve spring force. Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder Head Valves".
Installation Procedure

Tool     | Part Number     | Part Description     | Qty     |
A     | 1P-3527     | Valve Spring Compressor     | 1     |
E     | 4C-6373     | Seal Installer     | 1     |
F     | 4C-6366     | Valve Guide Driver     | 1     |
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Use Tooling (E) and Tooling (F) to install seal (5). Lubricate the stem of valve (6) with clean engine oil. Install valve (6). Install valve spring (2) and retainer (4) .

The valve spring keepers can be thrown from the valve when the valve spring compressor is released. Ensure that the valve spring keepers are properly installed on the valve stem. To help prevent personal injury, keep away from the front of the valve spring keepers and valve springs during the installation of the valves. |
- Use Tooling (A) to compress spring (2). Install retainers (3). Release pressure on Tooling (A) and remove Tooling (A) .

- Tap the top of the valves with a soft hammer in order to ensure that retainer (3) is properly installed.
- Repeat Steps 1 through 3 in order to install the remaining inlet and exhaust valves in the cylinder head.
- Install caps (1) .

- Check the depth of the valves below the face of the cylinder head. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Valve Depth - Inspect" for the correct procedure. If the depth of the new valves is below the correct depth, the valve seat inserts must be replaced. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Inlet and Exhaust Valve Seat Inserts - Remove and Install".
End By: Install the cylinder head assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cylinder Head - Install".
