Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Alignment of the pin joints is an important factor. The pins that are used in the pin joints are a slip fit. It is important to relieve the pin joint pressure from the pin joints that are being serviced. It is important to park the machine on a surface that is flat and level. Use the implement hydraulics, hoists, or suitable lifting devices in order to relieve the pin joint pressure. Use Illustration 1 as a guide for the pins and the pin joints that are referenced in this procedure.

  1. Lower the bucket so that the bottom of the bucket is flat on the ground.

  2. Install Tooling (A) on boom (4) so that Tooling (A) is supporting bucket link (1).

  3. Remove bolt (2), the washer, and the spacer from plate (3).

  4. Remove four bolts (6) and plate (7) from C-pin (5).

  5. Fasten a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to bucket link (1) for support.

    Note: The weight of the bucket link in a standard lift arrangement is 1235 kg (2720 lb). The weight of the bucket link in a high lift arrangement is 1340 kg (2955 lb).

  6. Fasten a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to Tooling (B). The weight of Tooling (B) is 213 kg (470 lb). Install Tooling (B) on the end of C-pin (5), as shown.

  7. Tooling (B) will capture C-pin (5) when Tooling (B) is removed. The weight of C-pin (5) is 217 kg (478 lb).

    Note: The combined weight of bucket pin (5) and of Tooling (B) is 430 kg (948 lb).

  8. Remove Tooling (A) from bucket link (1). Lower bucket link (1) onto boom (4).

  9. Remove nine bolts (8) and cover (9) from both sides of the bucket.

  10. Remove bolt (10), the washer, and the spacer from plate (11) on the left side of the B-pin.

  11. Install two forcing bolts (12) in the threaded holes of plate (11). Tighten forcing bolts (12) in order to remove plate (11) and the dowel pins.

  12. Remove O-ring seal (13) from B-pin (14).

  13. Remove four bolts (15) and plate (16) from the opposite end of B-pin (14).

  14. Fasten a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to Tooling (B). The weight of Tooling (B) is 213 kg (470 lb). Install Tooling (B) on the end of B-pin (14), as shown.

  15. Tooling (B) will capture B-pin (14) when Tooling (B) is removed. The weight of B-pin (14) is 217 kg (478 lb).

    Note: The combined weight of B-pin (14) and of Tooling (B) is 430 kg (948 lb).

    Note: To prevent damage to the tilt cylinder, make sure that the tilt cylinder is fully retracted before the boom is raised.

  16. Fasten a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to the bucket. Remove the bucket. The weight of the bucket is 9940 kg (21900 lb).

    Note: If the machine is operational, the bucket may be removed by backing up the machine.

  17. Remove collar (17) from the C-pin bore of the bucket. The outside diameter of the collar is a slip fit in the C-pin bore. Repeat for the opposite side of the bucket.

  18. Remove the collar and maintenance free linkage seals (18) from the B-pin bore of the bucket. Remove the collar and maintenance free linkage seals as a unit. The outside diameter of the collar assembly is a slip fit in the B-pin bore. Repeat for the opposite side of the bucket.

  19. Remove maintenance free linkage seal (20) from each side of collar (19). Repeat for the remaining collar.
