D6N Track-Type Tractor Power Train Track Adjuster - Remove and Install Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the front track roller frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Track Roller Frame - Remove".

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

1. Remove the bolts and retainers (1) from front track roller frame (2).

2. Remove cylinder (3) from front track roller frame (2).

3. Remove bolts (4) and plate assembly (5).

4. Remove O-ring seal (7), valve (6), and valve (8) from cylinder (3).

5. Remove plug (9) and the O-ring seal from cylinder (3).

6. Remove piston (11).

7. Remove seal assembly (10) from cylinder (3).

   Note: Flat Surface (X) must be aligned for installation purposes.

Installation Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the installation procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

1. Install seal assembly (10) in cylinder (3). Install seal assembly (10) with the lip toward the inside of the cylinder.

2. Align the flat Surface (X) on piston (11) with the flat surface inside cylinder (3). Install piston (11) in cylinder (3) until Surface (X) is deeper than the lip of seal assembly (10).

3. Install the O-ring seal on plug (9). Install plug (9) in cylinder (3). Tighten plug (9) to a torque of 300 ± 40 N·m (221 ± 30 lb ft).

4. Install valves (6) and (8). Tighten valves (6) and (8) to a torque of 35 ± 7 N·m (26 ± 5 lb ft). Install O-ring seal (7) on cylinder (3).

5. Position plate assembly (5) and install bolts (4).

6. Use the following procedure in order to evacuate the air from the track adjuster:

   1. Fill the track adjuster with SAE 30W oil.

   2. Position the track adjuster on the floor with the piston downward.

   3. Open the valves. Push the cylinder downward on the piston until all the air is removed from the track adjuster.

   4. Close the valves.

7. Install cylinder (3) in front track roller frame (2). Install retainers (1).

1. Install the front track roller frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Track Roller Frame - Install".
