Start By:

  1. Remove the front track roller frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Track Roller Frame.".

  2. Remove the track adjuster. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Adjuster - Remove and Install".

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

  1. Position Tooling (A) 280 mm (11.0 inch) away from the roller frame.

  2. Adjust the puller stud so that 25.4 mm (1.00 inch) of travel is allowed. Center the lead bolt onto tube assembly (2).

  3. Apply enough pressure to tube assembly (2) so that tube assembly (2) is off of nut (1). Back off nut (1) by a distance of 12.7 mm (0.50 inch). Slowly release the pressure.

    Note: Do not adjust nut (1) more than 13 mm (0.5 inch) at a time.

  4. Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 until nut (1) is removed.

  5. Remove tube assembly (2).

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to spring (3). Remove spring (3). The weight of spring (3) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).
