Crankshaft Main Bearings - Remove

1.1. Removal Procedure

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove".

  2. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".

  3. Remove the front housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".

  1. Remove bolt (3) from the main bearing cap. Remove bolt (1) from the cylinder block.

  2. Remove oil suction tube (2) from the cylinder block.

  3. Make sure that the main bearing caps are marked for the location and direction for installation. The main bearings and the main bearing caps must be installed in the same location.

  4. Remove bolts (4) and main bearing cap (5).

  5. Remove lower main bearing (6) from main bearing cap (5). Keep the respective main bearing and the main bearing cap together for proper installation.

  6. Push upper main bearing (7) from the opposite side of the bearing tab with a suitable tool. Carefully rotate the crankshaft while you push on the bearing. Remove upper main bearing (7) from the cylinder block. Keep the upper bearing halves together in order to ensure proper installation.

  7. Repeat Step 4 through Step 6 for the remaining main bearings.

  8. Remove the lower half of thrust washer (8) from the main bearing cap.

  9. Remove the upper half of thrust washer (9) from the cylinder block with a suitable tool. Carefully rotate the crankshaft while you push on the thrust washer (9). If necessary, move the crankshaft to the front or to the rear in order to loosen a tight thrust washer.

  10. Remove the seals from the front main bearing cap. Remove the seals from the rear main bearing cap.
