Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the front tires and rims.

2. Remove the front drive shaft.

3. Release the hydraulic system pressure.

1. Drain the oil from the front axle and the final drives. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedure.

2. Remove tube assembly (1). Repeat for the opposite side of the machine.

3. Remove bolts (2) and reposition bracket assembly (3).

4. Disconnect hose assembly (4) from each side of the machine. Disconnect hose assembly (5). Remove bolt (6) and disconnect harness assembly (7).

5. Install a Tooling (A) under fixed axle (8).

6. Attach a suitable lifting device to front axle (8). The weight of the front axle is approximately 3630 kg (8000 lb). Remove bolts (9) and lower front axle (12) onto Tooling (B). Pull front axle (8) away from the machine.

Installation Procedure

1. Install fixed axle (8) in the reverse order of removal.

   1. Apply Loctite C5A Cooper Anti-Seize to the frame dowel bores to aid assembly and disassembly of front and rear axles. No Anti-Seize is allowed on frame or axle mating surface.

   2. Tighten Bolts (9) to a torque of 1800 ± 200 N·m (1330 ± 150 lb ft).
