1.1. Installation Procedure

- Attach a suitable lifting device to hinge assembly (3). The weight of hinge assembly (3) is approximately
64 kg (141 lb) . - Position hinge assembly (3). Install the two rear mounting bolts and the washers. Install the front top mounting bolt (4) and the washer. Do not install the bottom two mounting bolts (4) at this time.
- Measure the gap between the bottom of the hinge casting and the fender. If there is no measurable gap, go to Step 5.
Note: Round the recorded value of the gap to the next larger value. Using a shim or a washer that is slightly thicker than the measured gap will result in the lowest stress at the hinge casting.
- If the gap is less than
2.0 mm (0.08 inch) , use 2 of 7I-3003 Shim Pack at each bottom bolt location. - If the gap is
2.0 to 2.5 mm (0.08 to 0.10 inch) , use one 199-4272 Hard Washer at each bottom bolt location. - If the gap is
2.5 to 3.0 mm (0.10 ± 0.12 inch) , use one 134-0165 Washer at each bottom bolt location.
- If the gap is less than
- Permanently fasten the shims or the washers to the bottom bolt locations on the fender in order to ensure that the shims or the washers will stay in place in the event of future service to the ladder hinge.
- Install the bottom two mounting bolts (4) and washers.
