Start By:
- Connect the engine to AVSpare Electronic Technician (Cat ET) before the DPF is removed from the engine. Once the engine is connected to Cat ET, then perform an ash service test. This test is a manual regeneration. Allow the DPF to cool before proceeding.
- Put identification marks (B) on both sides of clamp assemblies (1) for installation purposes.
- Put identification mark (C) on the diesel particulate filter (3) for installation purposes. Identification mark (C) is showing the flow of exhaust gases through the diesel particulate filter.
- Loosen clamp assemblies (1) and reposition the clamp assemblies toward the center of diesel particulate filter (3).
- Position Tooling (A) on the diesel particulate filter (3) and disconnect clamp assembly (2).
Note: Do not allow any objects to contact the internal element of the diesel particulate filter. Do not bump or shake the filter assembly.
- Use Tooling (A) in order to remove diesel particulate filter (3). The weight of diesel particulate filter (3) is approximately
15 kg (33 lb) . Discard both clamp assemblies (1).
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool. |
Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury. |

- Install the diesel particulate filter in the reverse order.
- Install new clamp assemblies (1). Torque the new clamp assemblies (1) to a torque of
50 ± 1 N·m (37 ± 1 lb ft) . Do not use power tools in order to tighten clamp assemblies (1).Show/hide tableIllustration 3 g02178052 Typical Example Note: Ensure that clamp assembly (2) is centered in the cradle pin joint. Aligned the clamp assembly uniformly over the diesel particulate filter prior to the tightening of the clamp assembly.
- Apply Tooling (D) to the threads of clamp assembly (2) for a Distance (X). Distance (X) is
25 mm (1 inch) above the trunnion. Use hand tools in order to tighten clamp assembly (2). Tighten clamp assembly (2) to a torque of16.5 ± 1.5 N·m (146 ± 13 lb in) .
- Install new clamp assemblies (1). Torque the new clamp assemblies (1) to a torque of
End By:
- Reset the Engine Ash Model. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS5026.
