Components of the Communication Adapter 3 Gp (466-6258) are listed: (1) Current version of Cat ET software for use with a Windows-based personal computer (2) 317-7485 Control Gp-Electronic (Com Adapter 3) (3) 457-6114 Cable As. (CA3 - Ethernet FLASH Cable) (4) 370-4617 Cable As. (CA3 PC USB Cable) |
When using Cat ET to diagnose machines covered in this manual, cable assembly 457-6114 is required. The cable allows connections between a 9-pin port connector or a 14-pin port connector and the Communication Adapter 3 module.
The new 14-Pin harness includes an Ethernet port connector which allows for flashing software using Ethernet.

Cat ET is a software program used to access, view, monitor, and sometimes change data used by an ECM. The service technician can use Cat ET to perform maintenance on the machine. Some of the options that are available with Cat ET are listed below:
- View the active and logged diagnostic codes. Refer to "Determining Diagnostic Trouble Codes".
- Viewing the active event codes and logged event codes.
- View the status of parameters.
- Clear active diagnostic codes and clear logged diagnostic codes.
- Perform calibrations of machine systems.
- Program (Flash) the ECM with the "WINflash" program. Refer to "ECM Software - Install"Troubleshooting.
- Print reports.
The following list contains some of the diagnostic functions and programming functions performed by the Cat ET.
- The failures of the ECM system are displayed.
- The status of most of the inputs and the outputs are displayed.
- The settings for the ECM are displayed.
- Display the status of the input and output parameters in real time.
- Display the clock hour of the internal diagnostic clock.
- The number of occurrences.
- The clock hour of the first occurrence and the last occurrence are displayed for each logged diagnostic code.
- The definition for each logged diagnostic code and each event is displayed.
- Load (Flash) new software.
- Active and logged diagnostic codes.
- Active and logged event codes.
Refer to "Diagnostic Trouble Codes" for the list of diagnostic codes activated by the ECM.
