3.2. Restrictions In Oil Lines
4.2. Leaks At Fittings And Connections Of Hydraulic Lines or Hoses
5.2. The Ripper Is Not Enabled In Messenger
6.2. The Anti-drift Valve Is Not Operating Properly

Probable Causes

  • Restrictions in oil lines

  • Leaks at fittings and connections of hydraulic lines or hoses

  • The ripper is not enabled in Messenger

  • The anti-drift valve is not operating properly.

Recommended Actions

Reference: Refer to Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Capabilities" for your machine.

Check the monitoring system for any fault codes that are related to the ripper lever "raise/lower" position sensor.

Check the monitoring system for any event codes that are associated with the ripper lever "raise/lower" position sensor.

Refer to Table 1.

Table 1
Event Codes
Code and Description  Conditions which Generate this Code  System Response
E473(2)Ripper Lift Control Out Of Neutral At Inappropriate Time   Indicates that the control function was in an active range when the engine was started. The implement system was turned on.  The code is logged.
E888(2)Ripper Function Disabled Due to System Fault   Indicates that an electrical component diagnostic is active. An active diagnostic code will prevent this machine function.  The code is logged.
E2115(2)Implements Disabled Due to System Fault   Indicates that an electrical or electronic failure was diagnosed that has potential negative effects on the capability of the hydraulic system.   The code is logged.

Restrictions In Oil Lines

Blockages, kinks, or restrictions in oil lines in both the supply and return oil lines can prevent oil flow to hydraulic components. Components cannot operate without oil flow from the pump. Components cannot operate properly with reduced flow or pressure available to motors, cylinders, actuators, etc.

Check for restrictions on all hydraulic oil hoses, lines, and tubes in the system or the circuit that is in question. Correct any problems that are found then retest the hydraulic system for any symptoms.

Leaks At Fittings And Connections Of Hydraulic Lines or Hoses

Leaks at fittings and other types of hydraulic line connections can cause loss of oil flow and prevent components from attaining pressures necessary to perform work. Pressure losses may generate complaints of weak lift function. Leaks at fittings and connections on the pressure side of pumps are a direct source of oil loss in the system, which can lead to component failure if the low oil levels are not monitored and pumps and motors are starved of oil. Leaks at fittings and connections on the suction side of pumps are a direct source of oil aeration, which can also cause damage to components (cavitation) and create excess or unusual noise.

Check for leaks at all fittings and connections of hydraulic oil hoses, lines, and tubes in the system that are in question. Correct any problems that are found then retest the hydraulic system for any symptoms.

The Ripper Is Not Enabled In Messenger

Make sure that the ripper setting are set correctly. The ripper must be set to enabled using Messenger system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Monitoring System" for your machine.

The Anti-drift Valve Is Not Operating Properly

Check the valve to see if it is operating properly. If the valve is not operating properly check the valve for a damage or blockage. Replace the valve, if necessary.
