Note: The bearing axis must be vertical for correct end play adjustment.
- Before assembly of the components, make sure that the bearing cups and the bearing cones are seated in the housing by using a
0.038 mm (.0015 inch) shim or a standard feeler gauge. - Use two cage bolts (3) in order to install cage (5) to case (1). The cage bolts are separated by a distance of 180 degrees. Do not install shims (2) or seal (6).
- Tighten the two cage bolts (3) to a torque of
1.7 N·m (15 lb in) . - Turn shaft (4) at least three revolutions in order to seat the bearings.
- Tighten the two cage bolts (3) to a torque of
3.4 N·m (30 lb in) . - Turn shaft (4) at least three revolutions in order to seat the bearings.
- Two cage bolts (3) should again be tightened to a torque of
3.4 N·m (30 lb in) . - Measure the gap between case (1) and cage (5) at the two cage bolts (3). Perform the measurement between the outside diameter of the flange and the cage bolts.
- Average the two measurements from Step 8. Add
0.33 mm (.013 inch) to the average. This result is the required thickness of shims (2). - Remove the cage. Reassemble the cage with required shims (2) from Step 9 and with O-ring seal (6).
- Ensure that the end play is
.1 ± 0.05 mm (0.004 ± 0.002 inch)
