The calibration of a component in the Machine ECM allows the ECM to determine the correct output level. The calibration also allows the ECM to determine the correct input signal of displacement of a given lever.

Many of the components that are connected to the Machine ECM can be calibrated by using the AVSpare Electronic Technician (Cat ET).

To access the calibration procedures for the Machine ECM, establish the connections of the Cat ET to the Machine ECM. Navigate to the calibration screen by clicking "Service" on the tool bar and then clicking "Calibrations". Click on the calibration that is needed.

Once the specific calibration is selected, the Cat ET will guide you through the calibration procedure.

The Cat ET will list initial machine conditions that must be satisfied before the ECM will allow the calibration procedure to continue. Follow the specific instructions on the display in order to successfully complete the calibration procedure.

Note: If, at any time any of the calibrations are aborted by either the operator or the ECM the "CALIBRATION REQUIRED" diagnostic will be active and the ECM will revert to the previous successful calibrated values. In order to clear the diagnostic, key cycle the machine.

The following list details the calibrations that can be performed for the components on the Machine ECM.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hot oil spray.

Make sure all attachments have been lowered, oil is cool and the pressure has been released from the hydraulic system before removing any components or lines.

Be sure there is no pressure in the tubing before it is disconnected from the fitting.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

----------------------

This calibration requires a tool in order to calibrate the initiation current for each implement circuit. The tool is a pressure sensor that is connected to the outlet pressure port for the implement pump. The test checks the amperage that is required in order to produce pressure that is above the stand by pressure in the implement system. The test determines the initiation current that is needed in order to start the actuation of each of the individual circuits in the machine software.

  1. With the key switch "OFF", connect the coupler of special tool (A) onto the implement test port (1). Install the connector of special tool (A) into the 3-pin harness connector that is located next to the remote test panel.

  1. Connect Cat ET and turn the key switch "ON".

Note: The option for "Implement Valve Solenoid Calibrations (Pressure- Based)" will only appear if tool (A) is properly connected before turning on Cat ET.

  1. Follow the steps in Cat ET. All of the set-up calibration conditions listed in Cat ET must be met before proceeding through the calibration test.

"Implement Operator Control Calibrations"

This calibration associates a duty cycle to a given lever position for the following components:

  • Blade Control Lever

  • Blade Control Handle Thumbrocker

  • Auxiliary Control Lever

The blade is moved by the joystick and recorded in Cat ET by the operator when the blade actually moves.

  • Blade Tilt Right Solenoid

  • Blade Tilt Left Solenoid

  • Blade Angle Right Solenoid

  • Blade Angle Left Solenoid
