Engine monitoring circuit

The components of the engine monitoring circuit are the Engine Electronic Control Module (Engine ECM), the engine oil pressure sensor, the inlet air temperature sensor, the coolant temperature sensor, the air filter restriction sensor, the coolant level sensor, and the coolant flow switch.

With the key start switch in the ON position, 24 volt power is supplied from the batteries via circuit breaker #11 and circuit breaker #3 to the Engine ECM. The Engine ECM supplies 5 volt power to the engine oil pressure sensor, the inlet air temperature sensor, the air filter restriction sensor, the coolant temperature sensor, and 8 volt power is supplied to the coolant level sensor.

Coolant level sensor (6) sends a signal to Engine ECM (1) which indicates whether coolant fluid is at the correct level in the radiator header tank, if not the Engine ECM will record the fault and shut the engine down. This fault is then sent to the AVSpare Monitoring System via the AVS Data Link. The AVSpare Monitoring System registers the fault and turns on the coolant level alert indicator.

With the engine running, engine oil pressure sensor (2) and coolant temperature sensor (4) send continually changing voltage signals to the Engine ECM. The Engine ECM compares these signals with the changing engine requirements and monitors them within the normal range.

If the signal from the engine oil pressure sensor, the engine coolant temperature sensor, coolant flow switch (5), and air filter restriction sensor (7) is out of range for the engines requirements, the Engine ECM will begin timing the condition. The Engine ECM monitors the condition of the sensors and will derate the engine or shut the engine down depending on the severity of the conditions.

The Engine ECM sends a signal to the AVSpare Monitoring System via the AVS Data Link. The AVSpare Monitoring System displays the sensor information on the gauge display of the gauge module and/or the monitoring system display of the AVSpare Monitoring System module.
