The components of the engine shutdown circuit are the engine shutdown switch and the Engine Electronic Control Module (Engine ECM).

The engine shutdown switch is used on the machine to provide the Engine ECM with an engine shutdown mode.
Engine shutdown switch (1) has two sets of contacts: normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO). Engine ECM (2) has two inputs: normally closed (NC) and normally open (NO). When the switch is in the OFF position, the inputs of the engine shutdown switch contacts change in position, to normally opened (NO) and normally closed (NC). This signal from the engine shutdown switch is sent to the Engine ECM. The Engine ECM will shut the engine down.
The engine shutdown switch will reset when the knob is turned clockwise. This shutdown method should only be used in an emergency.
