Parking brake circuit

The components of the parking brake circuit are the parking brake switch, the transmission oil pressure sensor, the brake accumulator oil pressure switch for brake application, the brake accumulator oil pressure switch for alert indicator, the parking brake solenoids, the parking brake oil pressure switch, the Power Train/Chassis Electronic Control Module (Power Train/Chassis ECM), and the parking brake alert indicator.

(10) Power Train/Chassis ECM

With the key start switch in the ON position, 24 volt power is supplied from the batteries via circuit breaker #12 to the transmission oil pressure sensor and the Power Train/Chassis ECM.

When parking brake switch (2) is moved to the ON position, 24 volt power from Power Train/Chassis ECM (10) to parking brake solenoids (7) and (9) is interrupted. The pressure oil in the wheel brakes is returned to the hydraulic tank and the parking brake is engaged. In this condition, parking brake oil pressure switch (8) sends a signal to the Power Train/Chassis ECM. The Power Train/Chassis ECM sends a signal via the AVS Data Link to the AVSpare Monitoring System. The AVSpare Monitoring System turns on parking brake alert indicator (1) .

When the key start switch is in the ON position and the parking brake switch is in the OFF position, the parking brake switch must be cycled to allow the parking brake to disengage.

If the oil pressure in the service brake system decreases below a preset value, contacts in brake accumulator oil pressure switch for alert indicator (5) will close, this will cause the brake accumulator oil pressure alert indicator to turn on. If the oil pressure decreases further, contacts in brake accumulator oil pressure switch for brake application (6) will close. This will cause the Power Train/Chassis ECM to de-activate parking brake solenoids. The parking brake will be engaged.

If the oil pressure in the transmission decreases below a preset value, this change is sensed by transmission oil pressure sensor (4). A signal is sent to the Power Train/Chassis ECM. The Power Train/Chassis ECM sends the signal to the AVSpare Monitoring System to illuminate transmission oil pressure alert indicator (3). If the transmission oil pressure decreases further the Power Train/Chassis ECM will de-activate the parking brake solenoids. The parking brake will be engaged.

If the parking brake switch is moved to the OFF position, power from the Power Train/Chassis ECM is supplied to activate the parking brake solenoids. This will allow pressure oil to flow to the wheel brakes to disengage the parking brakes. The parking brake alert indicator will turn off.
