(6) Axle oil cooler |
The two axle oil cooler pumps are fastened to the front of the timing gear housing. The pump that is mounted closest to the timing gear housing pumps oil to the rear axle housing. The tandem mounted pump is for the front axle housing.
Both pumps circulate the sump oil that is in each axle housing. The oil flows through passages in both the front and the rear axle housings. Each gear pump also causes the oil to flow through an oil cooler. Axle oil cooler (6) is located on the right side of the machine in front of the radiator. See Illustration 3 for reference. The hydraulic oil circuit helps keep the axle housings and internal brake components cool.
The oil originates from the center of each axle. The thicker lines in Illustration 2 represent the suction lines of the pump. The thinner lines represent discharge lines of the pumps. Oil flows through cooler (6) and filter (5) before the oil reaches the axles.
A bypass relief valve is located in each pump. The bypass relief valve limits the amount of oil pressure in the cooling system. The bypass relief valve is rated at 1035 kPa (150 psi).
Note: If this pump becomes worn or damaged, replace the pump.
