A machine may be equipped with one of two distinct electronic monitoring systems. The standard system is the Vital Information Display System (VIDS). The second type of monitoring system is the optional Vital Information Management System (VIMS). Machines that are equipped with VIDS or with VIMS have the capability to indicate the status of the basic machine functions. This includes the service brake circuit and the parking brake circuit.

On machines with VIDS, a dash mounted telemetry port (5) is available. Two dash mounted connectors are used on machines with VIMS. One connector is used for the telemetry port. One connector is used for VIMS PC downloads. Telemetry port (5) is located under the dashboard near the center of the dashboard.
The connector allows information from the monitoring system to be downloaded to a separate service tool. This applies to VIMS only.
Machines with VIMS have additional switches and additional sensors. These additional components are connected to the monitoring system. For the braking system, two additional oil pressure sensors are provided. The two sensors are located on the brake manifold under the cab.
Machines that use either monitoring system will alert the operator if a loss of brake oil pressure occurs. A loss of brake oil pressure causes a Warning Category 3 to occur. When there is a loss of brake oil pressure, the parking brake automatically engages. If the transmission is in first speed forward or in first speed reverse, the transmission returns to neutral.
When a Warning Category 3 occurs, the operator must shut down the engine as soon as possible. This helps prevent injury to the operator or potential damage to the machine.
A Warning Category 3 causes action lamp (1) and alert indicator (3) to flash. A Warning Category 3 also causes the action alarm to sound. A message also appears in message area (6). In some cases, universal gauge (4) may show a relative value.
Note: Do not operate the machine until the cause of the warning has been corrected.
The following list contains the problems that can appear in the message center. Problems that appear below in bold text indicate a possible Warning Category 3.
- "BRK TEMP HI"
- "F BRK ACUM PRES LO"
- "R BRK ACUM PRES LO"
- "PARK BRK ON RELEASE PARK BRAKE"
