Each of the front brakes contain one more brake disc than each of the brakes on the scraper. Each front wheel contains a parking brake in each front wheel.

Four disc type brakes are used for the service brake system. There is one disc type brake at each wheel. Oil from the brake circulation system bathes the discs that are located in chamber (7). A Duo-Cone seal (not shown) keeps this oil separate from axle oil. A second Duo-Cone seal keeps brake circulation oil inside the brake anchor (3) while keeping dirt, water, and other contaminants out. The brake circulation oil is also kept separate from the oil in the service piston cavity (9). The service piston compresses brake plates (8) and brake discs (6). Brake plates (8) are held stationary by splined teeth to the brake anchor (3). The brake anchor (3) is held stationary by splined teeth to the spindle (2). Brake discs (6) are splined onto wheel assembly (5). Compression between brake disks (6) and brake plates (8) creates torque to slow the rotation of the wheel assembly (5) .

A loss of pressure in the service brake system will cause a warning message to appear on the display panel (10).

(12) Brake control valve

(13) One brake light switch and one switch that tells transmission Electronic Control Module (ECM) that the brakes are being applied.

The braking and the hydraulic fan pump sends oil to the control manifold. The control manifold contains valves that control the pressure in the brake accumulators. The control manifold contains two pressure sensors. The two pressure sensors send electronic signals to the monitoring system. When the brake accumulator pressure is low, the monitoring system turns on a brake warning lamp (14), refer to Illustration 6.

When you depress the service brake pedal (11), brake control valve (12) is actuated. Depressing brake control valve (12) will send pressurized oil from the brake accumulators to the service brakes. The position of the pedal regulates the amount of oil pressure to the brakes. Depressing the service brake pedal also activates two switches located in (13). One switch activates the brake lights, and the other switch tells the transmission ECM that the brakes are being applied.

Brake Control Manifold Sensors

Illustration 7g03562237

The service brake pressure sensor (15) reads the pressure in the brake accumulators and signals the brake charge solenoid when to charge the brake system.

Service brake sensor (15) and service brake sensor (16) are redundant.

Purge Valve

Purge valve

Purge valve (17) is used to purge air out of the brake system.
