NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI1212" as the Part Number Causing Incident, and "7751" as the Group Number.

Problem

The logic of the software controlling the autoshift transmission was designed to a "default to last valid gear" mode. In the event of a problem, the transmission may not apply a directional change requested by moving the shifter handle, and keep the machine running in the previous direction. Refer to General Letter No. 63 - 936F Shipping Hold Status Report.

Action Required

Replace current 3E0015 Shifter Handle with the new 105-0153 Shifter, and replace current 102-0690 Control Box with the new 104-9557 Electronic Box. Put a new 3E7836 Film on the control box. - The new software is designed to a "default to neutral" mode.

In addition of this on machines on which the autoshift control box has been previously by-passed according to instructions provided October 7, 1992, reconnect the control box harnesses to the shifter harness and to the transmission solenoid harness.

Ensure that the brown seals are properly located between the connectors. If they are damaged, install new seals. 9X3132 is used on the 40-pin connector to the electronic box, 9X3265 is used at the 24-pin connector between harnesses.

NOTE:

The old shifter is not compatible with the new control box, and vice-versa. Both components must be replaced at the same time.

The shifter handle is fixed on the steering column by 4 nuts. The connections to the main cab harness are located underneath the cab platform. The shrouds around the steering column must be removed to free the shifter handle harness.
