PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING THE REAR AXLE DRIVE SHAFT
YOKES ON CERTAIN 966F WHEEL LOADERS

NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or
after failure. In either case the decision whether
to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When
reporting the repair, use "PS4717" as Part Number,
"7755" as Group Number, and "96" as Description
Code.
NOTE: Although the Program is to be administered as
described above on customer units, it is
recommended that Affected Product in dealer
inventory be reworked on a before failure basis.
In any event the rework should be carried out at
time the Differential Thrust Washers are replaced
as per COSA Service Letter No. 3 dated June 28,
1991 (PI3555). Parts should be purged from parts
stock as soon as possible.

Termination Date

September 30, 1992

Problem

The 9C4081 Yoke may fail the splines on 966F Wheel Loaders due to
marginal heat treat of the splines.

NOTE: Machines that have been repaired with 9C4081 Yokes
shipped from Grimbergen or Leicester after July 17,
1991 do not have to be replaced again.

Parts Needed

1 - 9C4081 Yoke (Use only Yokes shipped from Grimbergen or
Leicester after July 17, 1991 or Yokes from
other AVSpare source).

Action Required

Follow the procedures in the Service Manual. Remove and replace
the 9C4081 Yoke on the rear axle.
Inspect the yoke splines for wear and according to condition
rework as follows:
Rework I
If splines are completely stripped then the axle will need to be
removed, disassembled and cleaned for metal contamination.
Inspect the splines of the 9C8669 Shaft - Bevel Pinion for damage
and replace if necessary. Labor allowances as shown below under
heading Rework I.
Rework II
If splines are worn but still engage the splines of the 9C8669
Shaft, then only the axle oil will need changing. Labor allowance
as shown below under heading Rework II. Same allowance applies
for straight Yoke replacement on no failure and stock machines.
NOTE: The new 9C4081 Yoke is not fitted with a Guard. Remove
the 7V3791 Guard from the old Yoke and install on the
new Yoke.
Any additional parts should be claimed separately in accordance
with the warranty procedures.

Parts Disposition

Retain parts until claim settlement has been made.
PARTS STOCK
Remove any 9C4081 Yokes in the parts department that were shipped
from Grimbergen or Leicester before July 17, 1991.
Submit a separate claim making reference to this Service Letter.
Yokes from other sources are not affected.
