PROBLEM
D6 Track-Type Tractors operating in certain applications may encounter material, such as large aggregate, that can become lodged between the track links and 475-1311 or 457-1312 Rock Guard Assembly welded to the Front Track Roller Frame. In these applications, the rock guards can become bent over time. This bending occurs over time and is different from a one time instance of a large rock or non-compressible object bending a rock guard. |

ACTION REQUIRED
A failure is defined as a rock guard deformation 1" (25.4mm) or more. Rock guard deformation can be measured on a machine using the technique illustrated in Image1, and then calculated by taking the difference between measurements A1 and B1. NOTE: Image1 shows an outboard rock guard. The measurement and calculation technique shown in Image1 should also be used on inboard rock guards. If the deformation of the rock guards is equal to or greater than 1" (25.4mm) inspect the rock guards using the "Inspection Procedure" outlined in M0118468, Special Instruction, "Instruction to Install Reinforcement Plates on Front Track Roller Frame Rock Guards on Certain D6 Track-Type Tractors". **** If the inspection determines the rock guards should be repaired, use the following sections from M0118468, Special Instruction, "Instruction to Install Reinforcement Plates on Front Track Roller Frame Rock Guards on Certain D6 Track-Type Tractors": --- "Rework of Plate on the Rock Guard Assembly" --- "Installation Procedure of Fabricated Plates" **** If the inspection determines the rock guards should be replaced, use the following sections from M0118468, Special Instruction, "Instruction to Install Reinforcement Plates on Front Track Roller Frame Rock Guards on Certain D6 Track-Type Tractors": --- "Removal and Installation of the Rock Guard" --- "Installation Procedure of Fabricated Plates" NOTE: If the new 475-1311 and 475-1312 Rock Guard Assemblies that are being installed already have a reinforcement bar installed (See Image2), the steps associated with the "Installation Procedure of Fabricated Plates" section can be ignored. In the Claim Story, document the location and the repair method used (Repaired or Replaced) for each rock guard that is being claimed in this manner: Left Hand Track Roller Frame - Inside Guard: Repaired or Replaced or N/A Left Hand Track Roller Frame - Outside Guard: Repaired or Replaced or N/A Right Hand Track Roller Frame - Inside Guard: Repaired or Replaced or N/A Right Hand Track Roller Frame - Outside Guard: Repaired or Replaced or N/A |
