In certain situations, the Pilot Valve Module and/or the Machine ECM may need to be FLASH programmed via AVSpare Electronic Technician (ET). Some examples of these situations are:
- The Machine ECM will need to be flashed if it is being replaced.
- The pilot valve module and the Machine ECMs will both require flashing if the valve loader software needs to be updated or if a new pilot valve module from AVSpare Parts is installed.
Note: The pilot valve loader program will flash program only the Pilot Valve Modules that do not already have the latest software version. The Pilot Valve Modules that already have the latest software version will immediately be shown as "Complete" in the Status area. Pilot Valve Modules that do not have the latest software version will be shown as "Flashing" or "Required" in the Status area.
AVSpare Electronic Technician (ET) contains the program Winflash. The Winflash program is used to load Pilot Valve Loader Software into the ECM. ET will display illustrations to aid the flashing procedure.
Based on the situations listed above, the following procedure should be used to flash software into the machine and valve modules.
Procedure
- Connect the 160-0141 Adapter Cable As between the 171-4400 Communication Adapter Gp and the PC (while the PC is running ET).
- Connect the 139-4166 Data Link Cable As between the 207-6845 Adapter Cable As and the diagnostic connector on the machine.
- Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
- Use the Winflash program on ET in order to load the pilot valve loader software.
- In order to flash the machine ECM, select the machine ECM from the Winflash ECM selection screen.
If the Pilot Valve module needs to be replaced or if the Pilot Valve software is being upgraded to a newer version, perform Step 6 through Step 11.
If the Pilot Valve module does not need to be replaced or the Pilot Valve software is not being upgraded, Go to Step 12.
- Next, you will be prompted to select a valve loader application (flash file). Select the valve loader application (flash file) that you wish to flash program into the machine ECM.
- Select "Begin Flash" from the bottom of the screen.
- After the flashing is complete, select "Cat ET". Do Not select "WinFlash".
- If the Summary Screen does not appear, select "Valve Software Loader" from the list of detected ECMs.
- If the statuses of all the valves are listed as "Unidentifiable Failure", the key switch will need to be cycled. Do Not cycle the key switch or select "WinFlash" until the statuses of all of the selected valves are listed as "Complete".
- Once the detected valves are listed as "Complete", select "WinFlash" from the ET menu.
