Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the procedure for the installation of the No. 7 Ripper on D7R machines.

After the installation is complete, prepare the machine for service. Follow the procedures in the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction or order any parts until you read the information and you understand the information.

Safety

------ WARNING! ------

Do not attempt to assemble this machine until you read and you understand the assembly instructions.

Improper assembly procedures could result in injury or death.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

----------------------

NOTICE

Do not let any dirt or foreign material get into the hydraulic system during assembly or maintenance operations. Keep the oil in the hydraulic system at the correct level to prevent pump cavitation. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.

NOTICE

When a hoist is used to lift any component, stand clear of the area. Always make sure that the hoist has the correct capacity. Approximate weights of the components are shown in Table 1

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: No oil or lubricant is recommended on new fasteners. When fasteners are reused after being used in the field, the fasteners should be cleaned and lightly oiled before assembly. Instructions are given when lubrication is required.
