The AVSpare Monitoring System is an electronic monitoring system that continuously monitors machine systems. The monitoring system consists of the following displays: quad gauge module (1), speedometer/tachometer display (2), main display module (3) and indicator display (4).

Quad Gauge Module

Illustration 2g00995828

Coolant Temperature (5) - This gauge indicates excessive coolant temperature. If the gauge needle is in the red area, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Transmission Oil Temperature (6) - The gauge indicates excessive transmission oil temperature. If the gauge needle is in the red area, reduce the load on the machine. If the gauge needle is in the red area after approximately five minutes, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Hydraulic Oil Temperature (7) - The gauge indicates excessive hydraulic oil temperature. If the gauge needle is in the red area, reduce the load on the system. If the gauge needle remains in the red area, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Fuel Level (8) - The gauge shows the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. If the gauge needle is in the red zone, the fuel tank is low on fuel.

Speedometer/Tachometer Display

Illustration 3g00995829

Tachometer (9) - The tachometer displays the engine rpm during operation.

Speedometer (10) - The speedometer displays the machine ground speed in mph or in km/h.

Gear/Direction Readout (11) - The gear readout displays the selected transmission gear and the selected direction.

Monitoring System Display

Alert Indicators (12) - The monitoring system display has alert indicators which will indicate abnormal conditions of the machine.

Display Window (13) - The display window provides a digital readout that can show total operating hours of the engine (hour meter), current engine speed (tachometer), total travel distance (odometer), or active diagnostic codes. Also, the gauges in the gauge display may be monitored digitally in the display window.

Reference: Refer to Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, SENR1394, "AVSpare Monitoring System" for information about diagnostic codes.

Press switch (15) on the lower left side of the dashboard until the desired information is selected. The proper unit of measurement (°C, kPa, miles, km, rpm, liters, or service code) will be indicated at the top of the display window.

Hour meter (14) - When this indicator is on, the display window indicates the total operating hours of the engine. Use the hour meter to determine maintenance intervals.

Alert Indicators

Illustration 6g00995833

Engine Oil Pressure (16) - The alert indicator indicates low oil pressure. If this alert indicator flashes, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Parking Brake (17) - The parking brake is engaged and the transmission is in neutral. The alert indicator should flash during start-up. The alert indicator should go out when the parking brake is released.

Brake Oil Pressure (18) - The alert indicator indicates low oil pressure to the brakes. If this alert indicator flashes, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault .

Electrical System (19) - There is a malfunction in the electrical system. The system voltage is too high for normal machine operation or the system voltage is too low for normal machine operation.

If the electrical loads (air conditioning and/or lighting) are high and the engine speed is low, then increase the engine speed. This will generate more output from the alternator. If the alert indicator for the electrical system turns off within one minute, the electrical system is operating normally. Overload can occur during periods of low engine speeds.

Revise the operating cycle in order to avoid overloading the electrical system. Overloading the electrical system could result in discharging the batteries.

Low idle must be corrected. Adjust the low idle setting to the high side of low idle when the most common electrical loads are turned on. Reducing loads will also help. Use the medium fan speed instead of the high fan speed.

If this procedure does not cause the alert indicator to turn off, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault. The fault may be caused by an alternator belt that is loose or broken. Also, the batteries may be faulty.

If the indicator remains on near normal operating speeds and with light electrical loads, stop the machine and investigate the cause of the fault. The fault may be caused by an alternator belt that is loose or broken. Also, the batteries or the alternator may be faulty.

Differential Oil Temperature (20) (if equipped) - If the alert indicator comes on, change operating techniques or park the machine in order to allow the axle to cool down. If the situation continues, consult your AVSpare dealer.

Air Inlet Heater (21) (if equipped) - The air inlet heater has been activated for cold starting purposes. This alert indicator should go out when the air inlet heater shuts off after start-up.

If the parking brake and the transmission are engaged during engine start-up, the alert indicator and the action light will flash and the action alarm will sound. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position in order to stop the action alarm.

Hydraulic Oil Level (22) - The alert indicator indicates low hydraulic oil level. If this alert indicator flashes during operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Hydraulic Oil Filter (23) - The alert indicator indicates a plugged hydraulic oil filter. If this alert indicator flashes during operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Note: If the hydraulic oil filter is plugged, the bypass valve is open. Unfiltered hydraulic oil will flow through the system and damage to other system components may occur.

Primary Steering (24) - The alert indicator indicates a failure of the primary steering. The secondary steering (if equipped) should be automatically activated. If this alert indicator flashes during operation, stop the machine immediately and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine and investigate the cause of the fault.

Do not operate the machine until the fault has been corrected.

Note: Secondary steering only works while the machine is moving. No directional changes can be made when the machine operates under secondary steering.

Secondary Steering (25) (if equipped) - When you turn the engine start switch to the ON position, the alert indicator for the secondary steering will come on for three seconds. Then, the alert indicator will go off. If the alert indicator for the secondary steering does not come on, investigate the cause of the fault. Do not operate the machine until the fault has been corrected.

Indicators

Left Turn Signal (26) - This light comes on when the left turn signal is activated.

Roading Lights (27) - This light comes on when the roading lights are activated.

Transmission Neutralizer (28) - This light comes on when the transmission neutralizer is activated.

Right Turn Signal (29) - This light comes on when the right turn signal is activated.

Hazard Lights (30) - This light comes on when the hazard lights are activated.

Ride Control (31) (if equipped) - This light comes on when the ride control is activated.

Automatic Ride Control (32) (if equipped) - This light comes on when the automatic ride control is activated.

Floodlights (33) - This light comes on when the floodlights are on.

High Beam Lights (34) - This light comes on when the high beams are on.

Action Light (35) - This light comes on when a fault has been detected by the monitoring system.

Functional Test

The AVSpare Monitoring System performs an automatic internal test when the engine start switch is moved from the OFF position to the ON position. The test verifies proper operation of the outputs (displays, alert indicators, and the action alarm) and the internal circuits. The operator must observe the displays in order to determine whether the monitoring system is operating properly. The length of time for the test is approximately three seconds.

  1. During this test, the action light is on continuously and the action alarm sounds once.

  2. All of the alert indicators flash. Also, the "X10" indicator, the indicator for the hour meter, and all units of measurement come on in the display window. The digital readout shows "8.8.8.X.8.8.".

  3. On the speedometer/tachometer display, the gear/direction readout shows an asterisk and the digital speedometer shows 188 mph and km/h.

  4. All of the gauge needles ramp straight up. Then, the gauge needles go to the right and to the left. The gauge needles then show the actual current readings.

  5. The display then goes into the normal mode of operation or the display scrolls through the modes if the service input and the clear input are grounded or the operator switch input is grounded.
