Quick couplers may be installed on the rear of the machine. The quick couplers provide hydraulic power for trailer brakes and for the operation of a body hoist system on trailers.

When a trailer brake line is attached to quick coupler (1), the trailer brakes operate automatically whenever the service brakes of the machine are applied. When a line is attached to quick coupler (2), the body hoist system is controlled by a switch which is located inside the cab.

The body hoist system is controlled by spring return switch (3). The switch has three positions. Push the top of the switch and hold the switch in order to raise the body of a trailer. Release the switch in order to stop the body of a trailer from rising. The switch will return to the HOLD position. Push the bottom of the switch and hold the switch in order to lower the body of a trailer. Release the switch in order to stop the body of a trailer from lowering. The switch will return to the HOLD position.

Note: The body is not powered down. The body lowers under the body's own weight.

Connecting Services to a Trailer

  1. Connect the trailer to the towing hitch on the rear of the machine. If you are operating a towing hitch that is controlled by hydraulic power, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Towing Hitch (Hydraulic)" for more detailed information.

  2. Stop the engine.

  3. Ensure that the transmission control is in the NEUTRAL position and ensure that the parking brake is engaged.

  4. Clean the quick couplers on both the machine and the trailer.

  5. Carefully inspect the hydraulic hoses or pipes on the trailer for any signs of damage. The hydraulic hoses or pipes on the trailer must be free of the following defects: Cuts, bulging, kinking, abrasions and dents. Do not use the trailer if the hydraulic hoses and pipes are not in good condition.

  6. Connect the quick couplers on the trailer to the quick couplers on the machine. Ensure that the quick couplers are correctly engaged. The lock rings must be fully engaged and secure.

  7. Disengage the parking brake of the trailer or remove the wheel blocks before moving the machine.

Disconnecting Services from a Trailer

  1. Ensure that the transmission control is in the NEUTRAL position and ensure that the parking brake is engaged. Lower the body on the trailer.

  2. Stop the engine.

  3. Engage the parking brake for the trailer.

  4. Clean the quick couplers and disengage the quick couplers by pulling back on the lock rings. Install protective caps on both the quick couplers on the machine and the quick couplers on the trailer.

  5. Disconnect the trailer from the towing hitch on the rear of the machine. If you are operating a towing hitch that is controlled by hydraulic power, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Towing Hitch (Hydraulic)" for more detailed information.
