- Make sure that the transmission control is in the NEUTRAL position.
- Move the steering column to the desired position.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Fasten the seat belt.
- Make sure that the control levers are in the HOLD position.
- Turn the engine start switch to the START position in order to start the engine. Release the engine start switch key after the engine starts.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. Turbocharger damage can result if the engine rpm is not kept low until the oil gauge display verifies that the oil pressure is sufficient. |
Engine Starting with Air Inlet Heater (If Equipped)
Do not use aerosol types of starting aids such as ether. Such use could result in an explosion and personal injury. |
- Move the transmission direction control lever into the NEUTRAL position.
- Lift the steering column tilt lever and move the steering column to the desired position. Release the steering column tilt lever in order to lock the steering column into position.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Move the control levers to the HOLD position.
- Turn the engine start switch key to the ON position.
- Depress the top of the switch for the air inlet heater starting aid . The light bar inside the switch will light.
- The light bar inside the switch will go out when the preheat is complete. Turn the engine start switch key clockwise to the START position in order to crank the engine. As the engine is cranked, depress the accelerator pedal once and release the accelerator pedal. Depress the accelerator pedal halfway and hold the accelerator pedal until the engine starts. Release the accelerator pedal when the engine starts. Release the engine start switch key after the engine starts and the engine start switch key returns to the ON position. Do not crank the engine for more than 15 seconds.
- If the engine does not start, release the engine start switch key in order to disengage the starter motor. Repeat Steps 6 and 7.
If the engine runs rough, then depress the switch. The postheat cycle will run for an additional 30 seconds. Do not depress the starting aid switch for more than 30 seconds after the engine starts.
Engine Starting with Ether Starting Aid (If Equipped)
Note: Always attempt to start the engine with the use of the air inlet heater starting aid prior to using the ether starting aid.
Do not spray ether into engine when using thermal starting aid to start engine. Personal injury and machine damage could result. Follow the procedures in this manual. |
DO NOT USE ETHER (starting fluids) unless specifically instructed to do so. The use could result in engine damage and/or personal injury. When using starting fluid, follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Use starting fluid sparingly and spray it ONLY WHILE CRANKING THE ENGINE. Excessive ether can cause piston and ring damage. Use ether for cold weather starting purposes only. |
- Move the transmission direction control lever into the NEUTRAL position.
- Unlock the steering column. Move the steering column to the desired position and lock.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Move the control levers to the HOLD position.
- Turn the engine start switch key to the ON position.
- As the engine is cranked, push the ether starting aid switch and release.
- Operate the ether starting aid switch at two second intervals, and crank the engine at the same time. Continue the use of the ether starting aid switch until the engine starts, and the engine is running smoothly.
- Release the engine start switch key when the engine starts.
