The folded page is arranged for two purposes:
First, it is a complete outline of all the information required to lubricate the scraper.
Second, the illustration and identification of points of lubrication can be used with the detailed illustrations and information on the pages following the chart as a reference for lubrication and service information.
CO - Crankcase Lubricating Oil

- Diesel Engine Crankcase
Use Superior Lubricants (Series 3) Only
Check oil level every 10 service hours when hot with the engine in a level position and running at low idle speed. Oil level should be between the "full" and "add oil" marks on gauge (1). Add oil at (2) when the level drops to the "add oil" mark. Do not overfill.
The oil level may be considerably higher than the "full" mark on the gauge if the full capacity of crankcase oil is checked after the engine has been stopped for several minutes.
The diesel engine has a guard to protect the gauge from spray so the oil level should be checked with the engine running.

Drain the crankcase while the engine is hot. Remove the plug (3) from the crankcase to drain the oil. After draining clean and replace the plug. For recommended oil change periods see the topic, "Diesel Engine Crankcase Lubricating Oil Change Periods." Also see the topic, "Crankcase Lubricating Oil." See Note A.
Every 125 service hours or less, depending on the fuel sulphur content, drain the oil filter housing and replace the element with a new AVSpare element. Remove the drain plug (4), cover screw, and cover. Remove the element (5) from the housing and install the new element. Clean and install the drain plug and the cover. Run the engine for two minutes, then add oil to bring level to full mark on gauge.
After draining crankcase, refill at (6). Start the diesel engine. Run engine for two minutes then add oil to bring level to "full" mark on gauge, while engine is running.
NOTE: AVSpare Diesel Engines are built in a clean modern diesel engine factory and each crankcase is filled with a good quality of new crankcase oil. For these reasons the initial crankcase oil change period for this engine should be at the usual crankcase oil change period. See the topic, "Crankcase Lubricating Oil Change Periods."
Remove the upper breather element at (7) and wash in clean kerosene or diesel fuel each time the crankcase is drained.
Every 250 service hours, remove the breather housing (8). Wash the housing and the lower element with clean kerosene or diesel fuel. 11
-Transmission System
Use Superior Lubricants (Series 3) Only
Check the oil level in the transmission system every 10 service hours, using the gauge (1). Check when the oil is warm with the engine running at low idle speed, transmission in neutral, safety lock on and engine level. Add oil to the system at (2).
Every 1000 service hours, drain the transmission system. To drain the transmission, remove guard (4), then remove transmission drain plug. Also remove sump drain plug (5) and transfer gear case drain plug (6). Clean and install the drain plugs and refill the system to the correct level.
When extreme loads and high temperatures are encountered it may be necessary to change oil every 500 service hours. This can be determined by examining the oil on the oil level gauge and if it appears to be extremely thick the oil should be changed.
At each oil change period, remove and wash the element in the breather (3). Pour 1/4 pint (0.12 liter) of oil through the element and install it.
At each oil change period, remove the screen (7) from the torque divider transmission. Clean and install the screen, using a new gasket if necessary.
After the first 50 service hours operation of a new machine or of a reconditioned transmission, and at each oil change period thereafter, clean the range transmission sump screen. Remove the two bolts and the flange (10) from the adapter (8), then remove the screen (9) from the adapter. When the machine is level, only one or two quarts of oil will drain from the adapter and hoses when the flange retaining bolts are removed. Clean and install the screen and the flange. Install a new gasket if necessary.
At each oil change period, remove the cover and the screens (11) from the transmission oil sump. Clean and install the screens and the cover, using new gaskets if necessary.
Change the element in the transmission oil filter after the first 50 service hours operation of a new machine or of a reconditioned transmission and every 250 service hours thereafter.
Remove the drain cover (14) to drain the filter. Remove the filter cover (13) and the element (12). Install a new AVSpare element and the cover, using a new seal if necessary. Clean and install the drain cover. Operate the machine for a few minutes to fill the filter housing with oil, then check the oil level in the transmission system and refill if necessary. 12
Hydraulic Retarder
Use Superior Lubricants (Series 3) Only
Every 125 service hours, check the oil level when the oil is warm and the engine is in a level position. Be sure the control is in the "off" position to eliminate any pressure from the system. Oil should be to the level of the "full hot" mark on the gauge (1). Do not overfill.
Every 250 service hours, remove, wash and oil the breather (2).
Every 1000 service hours, remove the drain plug (5), the filler cap (4), and the bleeder cap (3) to drain the system. After draining, install the drain plug and refill the system slowly to the proper level, then install the bleeder cap and the filler cap. Recheck the oil level after the retarder has been applied several times and fill if necessary. 15
Starter Pinion Housing
Every 125 service hours check the oil level by removing plug (1). Oil should be to the level of the plug opening.
Every 1000 service hours drain at (2). Install plug and fill at (1) to level of plug opening.
BR - Ball and Roller Bearing Lubricant

Water Pump Bearings
Every 250 service hours lubricate the water pump bearings at (1) until grease appears at relief valve (2). Wipe off excess lubricant. 2
Belt Adjusting Pulley Bracket
Every 125 service hours lubricate the fan belt adjusting pulley bracket at (1). Wipe off excess lubricant. 3
Fan And Belt Adjusting Pulley Bearings
Every 250 service hours, lubricate the fan bearings at (1) until grease appears at relief valve (3). Wipe off excess lubricant.
Lubricate water pump belt adjusting pulley at (2) and fan belt adjusting pulley at (4) every 250 service hours. 5
Engine Tachometer Drive
Remove pipe plug, insert 1/8 inch hydraulic fitting and lubricate with one stroke of the grease gun every 1000 service hours. 6
Ejector Carrier And Guide Roller Bearings
Repack ejector carrier roller bearing at (2) and guide roller bearings at (1), located on each side of the scraper, every 2000 service hours. 7
Bowl Lift Cylinder Bearings
Every 10 service hours, lubricate the bowl lift cylinder bearings. 8
Apron Pivot Pin Bearings
Every 10 service hours, lubricate the apron pivot pin bearings. One on each side of scraper. 9
Drive Shaft Universal Joints
Every 1000 service hours, lubricate the universal joints. 13
Brake Slack Adjusters
Lubricate the brake slack adjusters every 2000 service hours.
Remove the plug from the slack adjuster. Install a 1/8 inch lubricant fitting in the opening and apply one or two strokes from a lever type grease gun. Remove the fitting and reinstall the plug. 14
Brake Camshaft Bearings
Lubricate the brake camshaft inner bearing at (1) and outer bearing at (2) sparingly with one or two strokes from a lever type grease gun every 250 service hours. 16
Ejector Support Rollers
Lubricate the ejector support rollers every 10 service hours.

Differential And Final Drives
Use Oil Meeting MIL-L-2105B Specification
Every 125 service hours, check the oil level in the differential compartment with the gauge (1). Add oil to the compartment at (2). The oil level can be slightly high or low if the machine is not on level ground.
The final drive compartments and the differential compartment are interconnected, and oil can flow from one to the other during operation. This flow of oil results in a final drive oil level which is above the filler plug (4). Oil should not be drained or added between oil changes unless disassembly is required.
Every 250 service hours, remove, wash and oil the breather (3).
Every 1000 service hours, drain the differential and final drive compartments.
Position each wheel with the plug (5) down and remove the plug to drain each final drive. Clean and install the drain plugs. Fill the compartments to the level of plug (4).
At the same time, drain the differential compartment by removing the plug (6). Clean and install the drain plug. Refill the compartment at (2). Oil level should be up to the full mark on the gauge (1).
