Ether Starting Aid - Ether is automatically injected by the engine control module (ECM) when engine speed is present and jacket water coolant temperature is below 10°C (+50°F). Additionally, a switch input is provided to the ECM to allow the operator to manually inject ether. |
If the operator holds the manual ether button, a five second duration of ether will be injected before the engine is cranked as long as the key switch is ON and the jacket water coolant temperature is below 10°C (+50°F). During engine cranking, the ECM will automatically inject ether with the duration dependent on the jacket water coolant temperature. After the engine has started and the automatic ether injection is completed, the operator can hold the ether button for additional ether. Ether is injected as long as: the operator holds the manual ether button, coolant temperature is below 10°C (+50°F) and and the engine's speed is below 1900 rpm.
NOTICE |
---|
After every 30 seconds of engine cranking, allow two minutes for starting motor to cool before cranking again. Turbocharger damage can result if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil gauge display verifies the oil pressure is sufficient. Refer to Engine Starting for further information. |
Four items determine amount and duration that ether is injected:
- Size of Engine
- Engine coolant temperature
- Engine rpm
- Position of engine start switch
