All fuels, most lubricants and some coolant mixtures are flammable. If fuel leaks onto hot surfaces or onto electrical components, fire can result. If fuel spills onto hot surfaces or onto electrical components, fire can result. Do not smoke while you refuel. Do not smoke when you are in a refueling area.

Do not smoke in battery charging areas. Also, do not smoke in areas that store material that is flammable.

Batteries can be installed in separate compartments. When you use jump start cables, always connect the positive (+) jump start cable to the positive (+) terminal of the battery that is connected to the starter solenoid. Connect the negative (−) jump start cable from the external source to the negative (−) terminal of the starter.

Note: If the starter is not equipped with a negative (−) terminal, connect the negative (−) jump start cable to the engine block.

For specific starting instructions, see Operation And Maintenance Manual, "Starting with Jump Start Cables".

Clean all electrical connections and tighten all electrical connections. Check the electrical wires daily for loose wires or for frayed wires. Tighten all loose wires before you operate the machine. Repair all frayed electrical wires before you operate the machine.

Keep all fuels and all lubricants stored in properly marked containers. Also, store all fuels and all lubricants away from any unauthorized persons.

Store oily rags and other flammable material in a protective container.

Do not weld on pipes or on tubes that contain flammable fluids. Do not flame cut on pipes or on tubes that contain flammable fluids. Clean pipes or tubes thoroughly with nonflammable solvent before you weld on pipes or on tubes. Also, clean pipes or tubes thoroughly with nonflammable solvent before you flame cut on pipes or on tubes.

Remove all flammable materials such as fuel, oil and other debris from the machine. Do not allow any flammable materials to accumulate on the machine.

Do not expose the machine to flames, burning brush, etc.

Shields, which protect hot exhaust components from oil or from fuel spray in the event of a line failure, tube or seal failure, must be installed correctly.

Fire Extinguisher

Make sure that a fire extinguisher is available. Be familiar with the operation of the fire extinguisher. Inspect the fire extinguisher and service the fire extinguisher. Obey the recommendations on the instruction plate.

Mount the fire extinguisher in one of the following locations:

  • Right, outside leg of the ROPS

  • Left, outside leg of the ROPS

Do not weld the ROPS structure in order to install the fire extinguisher. Also, do not drill holes in the ROPS structure in order to mount the fire extinguisher on the ROPS.

Strap the mounting plate to a leg of the ROPS in order to mount the fire extinguisher. If the weight of the fire extinguisher exceeds 4.5 kg (10 lb), mount the fire extinguisher near the bottom of the ROPS. Do not mount the fire extinguisher at the upper one-third area of the ROPS.

Ether

Ether is poisonous and flammable. Inhaling ether vapors can cause personal injury. Repeated contact of ether with skin can cause personal injury. Use ether only in well ventilated areas. Do not smoke while you replace ether cylinders. Use ether with care in order to avoid fires. Do not store ether cylinders in living areas or in the operator's compartment.

Do not store ether cylinders in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 49°C (120°F). Discard ether cylinders in an approved place. Do not puncture ether cylinders. Do not burn ether cylinders. Keep ether cylinders out of the reach of unauthorized personnel.

Lines, Tubes and Hoses

Do not bend high pressure lines. Do not strike high pressure lines. Do not install lines, tubes or hoses that are bent or damaged.

Repair lines, tubes and hoses that are loose or damaged. Leaks can cause fires. See your AVSpare dealer for repair parts or for replacement parts.

Carefully check lines, tubes and hoses. Do not use your bare hand to check for leaks. Use a board or cardboard in order to check for leaks. For details about fluid penetration, see Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" in the Safety Section. Tighten all connections to the recommended torque.

Replace the parts if any of the following conditions are found:

  • The end fittings are damaged.

  • The end fittings are leaking.

  • The outer covering is chafed or the outer covering is cut.

  • The wire shield is exposed.

  • The outer covering is ballooning locally.

  • There is evidence of kinking or of crushing of the flexible part of the hose.

  • The armoring is embedded in the outer cover.

  • The end fittings are displaced.

Make sure that all clamps, guards and heat shields are installed correctly in order to prevent vibration, rubbing, and excessive heat during operation.
