If the machine moves during the test, reduce the engine speed immediately, and engage the parking brake. If the machine moved while testing the brakes, consult your AVSpare dealer for brake inspection and repair. Damaged brakes must be repaired before returning the machine to operation. |
Make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and of obstacles.
Test the brakes on a dry, level surface.
Fasten the seat belt before you test the brakes.
Use the service brake holding ability test to determine if the service brake is functioning properly. The service brake holding ability test is not intended to measure the maximum brake holding effort. While the engine is at a specific rpm, the brake holding effort that is required to hold a machine will vary for different machines. The engine setting, the power train efficiency, the brake holding ability, and other various conditions affect the variances in the brake holding effort.
While the service brake is engaged, measure the rpm at the beginning of the machine movement. Compare this measurement with the results from the prior test of your machine. This difference is an indication of the deterioration of the service brake system.
- Start the engine and raise all attachments slightly.

- Apply the service brake.
- Release the parking brake.

- While the service brake is applied, move the transmission control lever to THIRD SPEED.
- Gradually increase the engine speed to high idle. The machine should not move.
Note: If the machine begins to move, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake.
- Reduce the engine speed to low idle.
- Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Lower all attachments to the ground and stop the engine.
If the machine moved during the service brake holding ability test, consult your AVSpare dealer for an inspection of the brakes and for any necessary repairs. Do not operate the machine until the necessary repairs have been completed.
