Cooling System Coolant (DEAC) - Change
`

------ WARNING! ------

Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.

----------------------

Note: This procedure pertains to AVSpare Diesel Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC) only. This procedure does not pertain to machines that are shipped from the factory with Extended Life Coolant (ELC) and machines that are maintained with Extended Life Coolant (ELC).

NOTICE

Do not change the coolant until you read and understand the material in the Cooling System Specifications section.

Drain the coolant whenever the coolant is dirty or whenever foaming is observed.

  1. Open the access door on the right side of the engine compartment. The drain valve is located on the bottom corner of the radiator. Open the drain valve. Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Close the drain valve. Fill the system with a solution which consists of clean water and of cooling system cleaner. The concentration of the cooling system cleaner in the solution should be between 6 percent and 10 percent.

  1. Start the engine. Run the engine for 90 minutes. Stop the engine. Drain the cleaning solution into a suitable container.

  1. While the engine is stopped, flush the system with water. Flush the system until the draining water is transparent.

  1. Close the drain valve.

  1. Add the coolant solution. See the following topics:

    • Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Specifications"

    • Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities"

Note: If you are using AVSpare antifreeze, do not add the supplemental coolant additive at this time and/or change the element at this time.

  1. Start the engine. Run the engine without the radiator cap until the thermostat opens and the coolant level stabilizes.

  1. Maintain the coolant level in the sight gauge that is located on the radiator.

  1. Install the radiator cap.

  1. Stop the engine.

  1. Close the access door. Replace the access panel.
