  1. Inspect the condition of the compressor drive belt. The belt should deflect 14 to 20 mm (.56 to .81 inch) under 110 N (25 lb) of force. Use a 144-0235 Belt Tensioner Gauge in order to measure the tension.

  1. Remove the belt guard.

  1. Loosen the compressor mounting bolts and the adjusting bracket bolt.

  1. To achieve the correct belt tension, move the compressor inward or move the compressor outward. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts and the adjusting bracket bolt. Recheck the belt adjustment.

  1. If necessary, repeat Step 2 to Step 4. Check the cab air filters. If necessary, clean the filter elements.

  1. If poor cooling is experienced, turn off the air conditioner. Stop the engine. Consult your Cat dealer for air conditioner system service.

Alternator Belt

  1. Open the access door (if equipped) on the left-hand side of the machine.

  1. Tighten the adjusting locknut. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.

  1. If new belts are installed, check the belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of engine operation.
