HYDRAULIC OPERATED QUICK COUPLER (WEDGE TYPE) FOR CATERPILLAR LOAD Operating Techniques Caterpillar

Operating Techniques
`
1.1. Attaching Front Attachments

For attachments that do not require third valve hydraulics.

------ WARNING! ------

If the operator or any person is in the cab and at the controls, clear all personnel from the machine and from the area while performing all steps listed in operating techniques.

------WARNING!--------

Attaching Front Attachments

1. Place the diverter valve in the "Coupler" position. Move the coupler locking wedges upward by operating the carrier machine's third hydraulic valve.

Tilt the coupler forward by pushing tilt lever forward.

NOTE: Make sure that the top coupler tube is below the level of the hooks on the attachment to be installed by adjusting the loader arm height.

2. Drive machine forward slowly, aligning the attachment hooks with the coupler tube.

Pull the lift lever back to slightly raise coupler. Raise loader arms until coupler tube contacts the attachment hooks and attachment is lifted slightly.

NOTE: Make sure the attachment is level from side to side.

Align attachment pockets with the retaining boxes of the coupler by pulling the tilt lever back until the attachment squarely rests against the coupler face.

3. Engage coupler locking wedges into the attachment retaining pockets by operating the carrier machine's third hydraulic valve.

NOTE: Visually check that the coupler locking wedges are engaged into attachment pockets. Make certain that attachment is engaged by following the instructions below.

- Push the tilt lever forward to tilt the attachment down.
- Push the tilt lever forward to put down pressure on the attachment.
- Drive the machine backwards and make sure that there is no movement between the attachment and the coupler.

NOTE: This is the only positive indication that the coupler locking wedges have fully engaged the attachment retainer pockets.

- Place the diverter valve in the "Attachment" position to prevent coupler disengagement by accidentally moving the third valve lever.

------ WARNING! ------

Improper installation of attachments could result in injury or death. Do not operate this machine until you have positive indication that the coupler wedges are fully engaged.

------WARNING!--------

Operating Techniques

For attachments that require the carrier machine's third hydraulic valve circuit, these additional steps are required.

1. Stop the engine.
2. Move all of the attachment's hydraulic control levers to relieve any hydraulic pressure.
3. Return all levers to the NEUTRAL position.
4. Remove the quick disconnect dust plugs from the attachment hoses, wipe off all foreign material.
5. Remove the quick disconnect dust plugs from the junction blocks on the coupler's rear side, wipe off all foreign material.
6. Connect attachment hoses to the quick disconnect fittings on the junction blocks.
7. Move the lever of the diverter valve into the "Attachment" position.

NOTE: The steps 1 through 3 should be done when disconnecting any hoses.

------ WARNING! ------

Improper installation of attachments could result in injury or death. Do not operate this machine until you have positive indication that the coupler wedges are fully engaged. Check for engagement by:

1. Push the tilt lever forward to tilt the attachment down.
2. Push the tilt lever forward to put down pressure on the attachment.
3. Drive the machine backwards and make sure that there is no movement between the attachment and the coupler.
