1. Open hinged cover located in grate at rear of cab.

2. Check transmission oil level on level gauge located under cover.

3. Maintain oil level between ADD and FULL marks on gauge. Add oil if required.

(34)Differentials And Final Drives

1. Check oil level of front differential at fill plug. Maintain level to bottom of fill opening.

2. Check oil level of rear differential at check plug. Maintain level to bottom of opening.

3. Add oil, if required through fill pipe located right of engine compartment. Install check plug.

4. Position wheels so final drive drain plug is at bottom.

5. Check oil level at fill plug opening. Remove plug.

6. Maintain oil level to bottom of fill plug. Install plug.

(35)Steering Gear Housing

1. Check oil level at fill plug. Remove fill plug.

2. Maintain oil level to bottom of fill plug opening.

3. Add oil if required and install plug.

(36)Brake Accumulator

1. Remove grate located at the rear of the cab.

2. Check accumulator pre-charge pressure. Your AVSpare dealer is equipped to make this check.

(37)Air Intake System

Service air cleaner when RED piston in indicator is locked in the visible position. Stop engine.

Servicing Primary Elements

1. Remove cover and primary element (one each housing).
2. Clean air housing and cover.
3. Clean and inspect element. (see page 30).

4. Install clean element and cover. Reset indicator.

If indicator shows RED shortly after installation of clean primary element, and element has been cleaned 6 to 8 times, change element.

If new primary elements were used, and indicator shows RED, replace secondary elements.

Do not wash secondary elements.

Servicing Secondary Elements

1. Remove cover and primary elements. Remove secondary element retaining nuts.

2. Remove and discard secondary elements.
3. Install new secondary elements. Torque bolts to 20 ± 5 lb. ft. (2,8 ± 0,7 mkg).

4. Install primary element and cover. Reset indicator.

Cleaning Air Cleaner Elements

Pressure Air - 30 PSI (2 kg/cm2) Maximum

1. Direct air inside element along length of pleats.

2. Direct air outside along length of pleats. Direct air inside along length of pleats. Check element.

Water - 40 PSI (3 kg/cm2) Maximum

1. Direct water inside element along length of pleats.

2. Direct water outside along length of pleats. Rinse, air dry thoroughly and check.

1. Wash in warm water and non-sudsing household detergent.
2. Rince with clean water, 40 PSI maximum (3 kg/cm2), see above.
3. Air dry thoroughly and check.

Checking Element

1. Insert light inside clean and dry element and check. Discard element if pinholes or tears are found.

2. Wrap and store good elements in a clean dry place.

------ WARNING! ------

When using pressure air wear safety glasses and protective clothing. Maximum air pressure must be below 30 PSI (2 kg/cm2).

Do not clean elements by bumping or tapping.

Do not use elements with damaged pleats, gaskets or seals.

NOTE: Have spare elements on hand to use while cleaning used elements.

(38)Fuel System

Primary Filter Element

1. Clean element when fuel gauge registers OUT with engine running.

2. Unlatch and lift up right engine guard.

3. Loosen mounting bolt and remove filter housing and element.

4. Clean filter base and inspect gasket. Use new one if necessary.
5. Remove element from housing and wash in clean solvent.
6. Dry element with pressure air.
7. Clean housing and install element.

8. Install element and housing. Start engine and check for leaks.

Final Filter Element

1. Remove bolts from access cover on top of hood and open cover.

2. Open final filter drain valve and allow to drain.

3. Remove filter cover and element assembly.

4. Remove element retainers and remove elements.

5. Install new elements. Inspect cover gasket. Use new one if necessary.
6. Clean filter housing.
7. Close drain valve.
8. Install elements and cover.
9. Prime fuel system (see below).

Priming the Fuel System

1. Open filter housing vent.

2. Open injector pump housing vent.

3. Operate pump until fuel flows from vent without bubbles.

4. Close filter housing vent.

5. Start engine and allow injector housing vent to bleed for 30 seconds.

6. Close injector pump housing vent.

(39)Cooling System

Use clean water that is low in scale forming minerals - not softened water.

Add AVSpare Rust Inhibitor to coolant except when using permanent type antifreeze containing rust inhibitors.

Never add coolant to an overheated engine. Allow it to cool first.

Whenever draining and refilling the cooling system, always recheck the coolant level after the engine reaches normal operating temperature. Maintain coolant level 1/2 inch below bottom of fill pipe.

Check specific gravity of antifreeze solution frequently in cold weather to assure adequate protection.

Cleaning Cooling System

1. Run engine long enough to warm coolant. Loosen filler cap to relieve pressure.

2. Remove filler cap. Open valve and allow coolant to drain.

3. Close drain valve and fill system with cleaning solution. (1)
4. Start engine and operate for 1/2 hour.

5. Stop engine and open valve. Flush system with clean water until draining water is clear.
6. Close drain valve and fill system with neutralizing solution. (2)
7. Start engine and operate for 10 minutes.
8. Stop engine, open drain valve and flush system.
9. Close drain valve and add coolant to proper level.

(1)2 lb. (1 kilo) Sodium Bisulphate (NaHSO4) per 10 gal. (40 liter) water.

(2)1/2 lb. (250 g) Sodium Carbonate Crystals (Na2CO3, 10 H2O) per 10 gal. (40 liter) water.

NOTE: Most commercial cooling system cleaners may be used.
