- 1. Remove transmission drain plug and allow oil to drain.
- 2. Remove oil sump drain plug.
- 3. Remove transfer gear case drain plug.
- 4. Remove hose and inspect seal. Use new seal if necessary.
- 5. Remove screen and wash in clean solvent.
- 6. Install screen and hose.
- 7. Change oil filter element and clean magnetic strainer. See Item 19.
- 8. Remove cover and screen.
- 9. Inspect cover seal. Install new seal if necessary.
- 10. Remove screen from cover. Wash screen and cover in clean solvent. Install screen to cover.
- 11. Install cover and screen. Clean and install all drain plugs.
- 12. Remove transmission breather cap. Remove element.
- 13. Wash element and cap in clean solvent.

(23)Differential And Final Drives
NOTICE |
---|
Scraper lowered, parking brake set and engine stopped. |
- 1. Remove differential breather.
- 2. Wash breather in clean solvent.
- 3. Shake or blow dry.
When using pressure air, wear safety glasses and protective clothing. Use 30 PSI (2 kg/cm2) maximum pressure air for cleaning purposes. |

(23)aWheel Coolant
Without wheel coolant the brakes can generate enough heat to burn the tire bead. This can cause the tire to explose with considerable force. |
Use a solution of 20% antifreeze (Ethylene Glycol) and 80% water.
To check coolant level:
On either later or earlier machines, position wheel so fill plug is level with centerline of axle.
Later Machines:
- 1. Remove fill plug and check coolant level. Level should be to bottom of fill plug opening.
- 2. If necessary, add coolant solution to bring level to bottom of fill plug opening.
- 3. Install fill plug and tighten.
Earlier Machines:
NOTE: On earlier drive wheels, a brake drum stud must be removed for filling and checking. Non-drive wheels on the earlier machines may not have a plug in the outside wall of the wheel. Addition of a plug will greatly facilitate the coolant level check procedure.
- 1. Remove fill plug or brake drum stud.
- 2. If necessary, add coolant solution to bring level to bottom of fill plug opening.
- 3. Install plug or stud and tighten. Use thread lock compound to prevent leaking from the stud holes.
